Off To Akrotiri

For the next part of our trip i had booked for us to stay at the stunning Avant Garde Suites I managed to get an amazing deal through Trip Advisors booking service Tingo... I was a bit dubious about using them as i had not heard alot about them and their price was easily £300 cheaper than anywhere else but as Santorini was expensive and we really wanted a hot tob suite with a view i took the risk and booked it and i am so glad we did.

We left Altea Apartments around 11 and headed towards Akrotiri, as we couldnt check in till 2 we decided to make a little pit stop in Megalochori a stunning little town filled with white buildings, bells and instagram worthy tumbling pink flowers; we parked up and took a walk around it was so quiet around it is obviously a town that isnt over run with tourists so we pottered at our leisure taking endless snaps and came across some under ground caves that were previously used for food storage ect (there are so many under ground caves in Santorini for this reason) the court yard we walked through to get to the caves was the most colourful thing i saw the whole time i was in Santorini, they had steered away from white and blue and had instead gone with a very bold purple and yellow..

We continued towards Akrotiri (the island is so small it takes roughly 40 minutes to get from one end to the other) and arrived at our hotel which completely exceed our expectations, it was set right on the edge of the island with an unspoilt view of the whole of Santorini, i was so happy my gamble had paid off, the staff were the nicest people i have ever met, Mariana on reception could not do enough for us she made our stay perfect and to top it all off once we were able to check in to our room they had lit candles in the shape of a heart on the floor and had given us a bottle of wine with a little note wishing us a happy first anniversary.

Our room was stunning and so much bigger than we had anticipated, our 'balcony' had a double sun lounger, table and chairs with a parasol and then our hot tub that looked directly at the Caldera we felt so blessed and the hotel facilities included a indoor spa room with a beautiful heated pool with jets, a gym and showers along with the outside pool and bar, we had our breakfast delivered to our room every morning everything was perfect and it was right on the edge of the town so everything was within walking distance.

The town of Akrotiri is so small that you can easily walk around it with a handful of restaurants and shops it was a world away from Fira and was definitley more our style we love being away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to dip our toes in when we want to..
